New York State Archives Partnership Trust Announces Launch of Education Forward Endowment Fund with Historic Gift from the Rutledge Family Foundation
罢丑别鈥痶oday announced the鈥痗reation鈥痮f the鈥疎ducation Forward Endowment Fund,鈥痚stablished鈥痶hrough鈥痑 $500,000 grant from the鈥疪utledge Family Foundation. The largest single contribution in the Trust鈥檚 history, the grant will鈥痟elp鈥痵upport鈥痩ong-term鈥痵ustainability and growth of the鈥疶rust鈥檚鈥痚ducational programs,鈥痜urthering its mission to鈥痠ncrease access to鈥痯rimary source materials鈥痜or鈥痚ducators and students of all ages.鈥粘蟊疴痚ndowment鈥痺ill support integrated resources for educators鈥痜ocused鈥痮n the analysis of primary sources鈥痑nd the鈥痙evelopment of critical thinking skills.
New York State Education Commissioner Betty A. Rosa said, 鈥淭he creation of the Education Forward Endowment Fund听represents听a powerful investment in the future of teaching and learning in New York. We are deeply grateful to the Rutledge Family Foundation for this historic $500,000 gift, which will ensure long-term support for expanding access to primary source materials and strengthening critical thinking skills for students and educators statewide. This endowment advances our shared commitment to educational excellence, equity, and opportunity for all.鈥

By helping to establish the鈥疎ducation Forward Endowment Fund, we want to ensure that our shared past is brought directly into the classroom to inform and inspire a new generation who will write their own stories."
The听Trust鈥檚 current听educational programs include:
- , a听premier online resource providing educators with primary sources from over 300 historical and community organizations and local governments, inquiry-based activities, and鈥痯rofessional learning services鈥痶hat help听connect students with local resources.
- ,听a quarterly education magazine designed for a general audience, offering engaging stories and photographic essays on history found in local and state records. For younger readers,听听featuring听Archie the听Jr!听Archivist was created in Fall 2023 and听is used听in over 490 school districts across 61 counties. The听Jr!听magazine is鈥痜ree for educators, offered in print and digital formats, and features supplemental resources on鈥疌onsidertheSourceNY.org.听听
- In its鈥36th听year, the听听helps students build research skills and encourages them to explore the wealth of historical records held in repositories across New York State. The program also serves to increase cooperation between schools and organizations that administer historical records useful for education.
- 听supports听advanced research on New York State history, government, or public policy in the New York State Archives. The program serves university and college faculty, graduate students, historians, educators, and researchers.
